Such a post

Over the past few weeks, I've been spending a lot of time with the band, because next week our new EP is being released – for the first time on vinyl. There's a big release party with live music. Come by, we need to pack the place!

To celebrate, we've come up with T-shirt designs, created a new banner with a special feature, stickers, posters… Phew. I did a lot of it because I'm the one with the most graphic design skills and tools. My inbox has been nothing but print and status updates for weeks.

AI

After briefly generating some images with AI to use as featured images on this site, I soon stopped. Recently, I not only stopped generating images altogether, but also replaced the existing ones with real photos or removed them entirely.

Therefore, the only things on this page that likely use an underlying LLM are the spell checker and translation assistance.

I've continuously adapted my site so that it works better and better without images, without becoming a wall of text. This doesn't mean I won't use any images at all, but I don't have to, and that also reduces the urge to use meaningless stock photos or even AI-generated images.

Course, Underground and RSS-Feeds

[[/blog/2026/i-wrote-a-kirby-course|I have already reported on my course in more detail here.]], I'll spare you the repetition. I haven't yet revealed anything about the underground (working title).

This is a new section on my site, which will be separate from the rest. There, I'll be experimenting with completely different content, all very experimental and independent from the rest of the site – at least for now, who knows.

The technical setup is almost complete. Years ago, I wrote a community plugin for Kirby but never released it. I've reactivated it for this section and my course, and it's already up and running under the radar. Whether "Kommunity," as the plugin is called, will ever be released as an official plugin, I don't yet know; maintaining extensive plugins is starting to push me to my limits.

I'm currently polishing the new section and adding translations, and then the first texts should go live sometime soon.

New taxonomies have been online for quite some time. On my site, the teams and categories have been dormant for a while. These images represent a hierarchy. At the very top are the teams; for example, there's the "Development" team, where all posts related to development end up. The categories then become more specific. The Kirby CMS category contains all Kirby-related topics and is therefore narrower, but can include posts from various teams.

What's the point of all this? Each team and each category not only has its own listing but also its own RSS feed. My aim is to be able to write more comprehensively. Anyone interested only in Kirby can subscribe to the Kirby feed and won't see anything else. [[/browse|An overview is available here.]]

25 years RadioTux

I also wanted to write a post about RadioTux turning 25 this year. 25 years ago, Steffen and Ingo founded the on-demand radio station and brought me on board, long before the term "podcast" even existed. RadioTux is still a podcast, and it's still run by Ingo. I think that's remarkable. RadioTux is probably one of the oldest podcasts still active.

Meta. Meta. Meta.

So why didn't I write the post then? Somehow, I'm not happy that my blog now consists almost entirely of anniversary-look-at-how-long-I've-been-at-this posts.

The temptation is there, of course. You do feel proud now and then of everything you've accomplished. But somehow, these kinds of posts are often only interesting to yourself, and I find myself rolling my eyes.

My big goal for this year: less meta-blogging. So far, it's not going so well.

A long time ago, when I was doing my alternative civilian service in a surgical intensive care unit, I had already started writing and had often considered doing it professionally. I saw all these tragedies and, in youthful arrogance, thought that I shouldn't be stuck in front of a computer all day programming, but rather tell all these stories! As a journalist! Or an author! Or both!

Well. A high school diploma, a youth magazine, and numerous blog posts and articles later, I spend most of my day programming.

These stories still haven't let go of me, though. Hence the underground, hence less meta, because there's actually enough to tell, and you don't constantly have to recount how you used to tell stories, how others should tell them, and what they have, and what it all means.

The Underground (working title) is a result of this.

But then there's one more thing currently holding me back from writing: the world. I mean, WTF?! It's pretty easy these days to wallow in Weltschmerz and then just sit there in a daze in front of the screen thinking, "What the heck, let's just forget about writing this banal post."

Of course, not writing doesn't make things any better. So here's the obligatory "I have a plan" post. Let's hope the obligatory "nothing happens" hiatus doesn't follow...
